. The other day I talked about killing a character, and here's a post about killing characters.
Why characters and plot are inseparable.
[livejournal.com profile] establishedfest is a multifandom community focused on established relationship meta and fanworks. The relationships don't have to be romantic. Discussions are scheduled to begin this month.

. This is the point where I suspect the (currently hypothetical) 50k words from NaNo would indeed be included in my [community profile] inkingitout goal, rather than become a separate target. More coffee in the evening? /falls asleep too early lately
But I am editing! And cutting out swathes of paragraphs from the story, so I must be doing it right.

The Aurors Prompt Fest (Harry Potter, AO3):
A prompt fest for The Aurors, a fan trailer for a TV show that never existed (but should!). Think "Harry Potter + Cop Drama," and you have the general idea. Sign-us close on December 8.
LJ-side:
[livejournal.com profile] fivetimesbb is a big bang where you write based on the principle of five - five chapters, five themes, etc. The wordcount choices are:
1. Bitty Bang: 2000-5000 words
2. Baby Bang: 5000-10000 words
3. Big Bang: 10000 plus words
Sign-ups are open throughout December.

The sign-up for [livejournal.com profile] imaginarybeasts Book #31 is open and the theme is Music. We've only had two people sign up so far, so if you feel like writing or drawing something music-related...?

Some thoughts on more realistic violence for writers.
A question of POV and voice: diagnosis of a snippet.

[As Kollin rolled off] Be wary of "as" statements, since they frequently read like someone watching the action, not the person doing the action.

...Guilty as charged.

Dear dust-covered WIP,

I like you. I like your plot and characters. But this is a story about two women, so why is it seen from a male character's POV? One way to solve this is to switch into the omniscient POV, and merge the two stories together at the end. And the dude doesn't have to tag along with both women --> there won't be any excuse to tell the story from his POV.

On LJ:
December themes for [livejournal.com profile] 31_days. I find them pretty and not too hard to interpret or elaborate on.
A novel competition for NaNo winners on LJ: submit a brief plot summary of your story and win a Kindle.
[livejournal.com profile] mini_nanowrimo, if not a roaring success, is still a satisfying one. I only missed two days and the total wordcount is twice the target.

Disney parents: dead mothers and absent fathers. Having the MC's or other characters' parent(s) present in the story often leads to conflict and character development, so why not.

10 reasons why pursuing your creative work is actually highly productive (+ not selfish or self-indulgent). But writing still doesn't make me sexy. (This isn't complaining, just stating a fact)
How to be a creative genius (or just look like one). I might just have enough of the speshul snowflake syndrome in me to pull this one off.
